Listening and reading – topics are introduced using a wide range of general or exam reading and listening texts. Students will also
develop their comprehension skills appropriate for the task so that they are more effective and efficient at completing tasks to time
Speaking – through pair work, group work, class discussions and presentations students will be given the maximum opportunity to
improve their fluency, range and accuracy. Using past exam papers, the students will be completely familiar with the exam format.
Writing – the students will analyse and understand the range of tasks required for the exams. This will involve looking at planning,
organisation, style and useful phrases and structures.
Study skills – teachers will help the student improve their understanding of how to learn English so that the students can continue to
improve after the course has finished.
Course Goals
Improve confidence, ability to use and understand English in a wide variety of English speaking environments. Our aim is for students
to move up a Common European Framework (CEF) level after approximately 10 weeks. Through pre-testing and regular level tests
students are advised on the length of study necessary to reach their intended goal. This is constantly monitored and revised during
the course.

Torquay International School’s IELTS Examination English 23 hour course is designed for
motivated English language learners who intend to take this exam for future academic
study. The course comprises 15 hours of General English and 8 hours of dedicated IELTS
exam preparation. We also run an IELTS Bootcamp course three times a year – more

Students can join the course at any time. These courses have been designed to help
students understand the criteria required for each exam as well as improving the four key
general English skills. Skills work includes:
Grammar – the aim of the course is to increase understanding, activate usage and extend
the range of grammar which the students are expected to know for the exam. Teachers
will use a variety of techniques to introduce, practise and revise the grammatical forms
